DBZ vs Justice League

I've had this concept in my head for a while, but between doing all the artwork for my wedding favors and invitations, then powering though The Redeemers #5, it's sat on the backburner since 2014. So, yeah! We've all seen Superman VS Goku done to death, but I'd never seen anybody blow the concept out and do a larger scaled battle between the Justice League and Dragonball fighters (a few loose flat pieces and YouTube animations I've since seen notwithstanding).

I'm pretty pleased with this. I cranked out the background pretty fast, so some elements of it aren't my strongest work, but it's alright. The real star of the show here is the character matchups. It was a lot of fun picking out the more poetic face offs, i.e. the second bananas fight between Vegeta and Dark Knight Returns armored Batman, tricops vs trident (quantdent?) with Tien and Aquaman, the sword duel between Wonder Woman and Trunks, and the green man Piccolo vs the Green Lantern.

Stylistically, I enjoyed trying to blend the Dragonall characters into my usual style, which does lend itself better to American superhero stylings as of late. One significant challenge was getting Gohan's eyes to not read too anime-ish, but still be big and expressive enough to convey his youth. On the other side of the coin, Krillin's design is so distinct from the others-- flesh-colored eyes and no nose, I had to lean more towards his usual model. I tried to keep all the DBZ characters roughly in their Android/Cell saga costumes (Yamcha being the sole exception just for the joke), but played it a little fast-and-looser with the DC characters. Most of them- Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Flash, and Green Lantern- are in costumes that more or less match Bruce Timm's designs from the Justice League cartoon. Superman is modeled after his New 52 costume, though I tried to incorporate a little bit more of his yellow into it. Batman is an amalgamation of his Dark Knight Returns armor and the recent design from Batman V. Superman that took its design cues from that book. Wonder Woman is more or less in her New 52 costume, while Hawkgirl is somewhere between her cartoon and comic costumes.
